Don't knock till you try it...

So most of you have probably heard of geo caching but may not know exactly what it is. I have heard about it for awhile and even knew what it was about and what it involved but never really saw the point or thought I would like it. Let me explain in case you don't know. Here is a definition from Wikipedia:

"Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or othernavigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container (usually a tupperware container or ammo box) containing a logbook. Larger containers can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little value. Geocaching is most often described as a "game of high-tech hide and seek," sharing many aspects with benchmarkingtrigpointingorienteeringtreasure-huntingLetterboxing, and waymarking.
Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, includingAntarctica.[1] After 10 years of activity there are over 1 million active geocaches published on various web sites.[2] "

Ricky recently got the new iphone and of course it has a GPS on it and in fact you can get a geocaching application so he bought that. He has been itching to do it. I wasn't really on board at all and thought well he will probably get into but I'm just not. I didn't really see how it would be fun or I just thought I wouldn't like it. Well he bought the application and and started looking to see where all the caches were around us. One happened to be really close by my parents neighborhood. We went out one night to do some errands and happened to be going by and I just mentioned well do you want to look for it and of course he did. So we started hunting for it and it was a little tricky at first since we didn't know exactly what we were doing or looking for. We read a hint that would help us and then we found it. That's all it took for me! I'm hooked! New hobby here I come! It's fun to try to hunt for something that a certain number of people know is there. We are trying to find one now that is at the Bartlett Soccer Park and we can't so of course it has got us hooked even more. People have found it on the same day we have looked but we can't find it.

If you like playing the jingle bell rock from 104.5 fm every year then you would like geocaching however, there isn't a huge prize if you find it just satisfaction of knowing you did it. If you want a cheap hobby geocaching is right up your lane!
